The BellRays

For those of you who have yet to come across them, the BellRays, are Lisa Kekaula (vocals), Bob Vennumm (bass), Tony Fate (guitar) and former Doorslammer frontman "Hot Rod" Todd Westover (drums).

Formed in the Riverside area of California, the band, who describe their music as "Maximum Rock & Soul", seem to have found the perfect formula for rocking out. Their latest album, Meet The BellRays - an overhauled and remastered compilation of their first two albums, Grand Fury and Let It Blast, serves as an introduction to the BellRays for the UK. The album is released through Poptones on 6 May 2002, coinciding with their first UK tour dates. Mainstays of the L.A. club circuit, the BellRays have gained widespread acclaim in the US for their indie releases and their high-energy shows that verge on sonic violence. With musical inspiration gathered from a diverse range of sources from Parliament to James Brown, and from 60's R&B; to the Who, it's little wonder that the BellRays successfully produce what is being dubbed as rock'n'soul - a throbbing blend of garage punk, rock and soul. Uncompromising, savvy and honest, the BellRays do exactly what they want and fuck everybody else. They take you back to a time long past when music was dangerous and musicians were the people you didn't want your daughter going out with. We've been allowed to stream the entire album, so come on in and Meet the BellRays...

The Hives

Knowing what a hard bunch you are to please, we've managed to get hold of a bumper bundle of treats from those Swedish cardinals of cool The Hives. The band released their third album Your New Favourite Band last October, which is rapidly approaching Platinum status.

The Hives' latest single Main Offender - the second to be taken from the album is released on 6 May 2002, though Poptones/Telstar. Dive in and enjoy... Main Offender is probably already familiar to many, it was the track which got Kylie going in her infamous Agent Provocateur ad. The single is the follow up to Hate to Say I Told you So, which was released in February and resulted in one of the most memorable live Top Of The Pops performances in a long time.
